Apply for Aid
There are four steps to apply for aid at YHC:
1. APPLY TO YHC
Complete the YHC Admission Application. Scholarship and financial aid awards are made only after a student has been officially accepted. All freshmen admitted to Young Harris College are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.
2. Complete the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Complete the FAFSA using our school code, which is 001604. The FAFSA determines eligibility for need-based grants, work-study and need-based loans. Filing the FAFSA is an annual process, and it must be renewed every year. We recommend that students apply early because most need-based funding is limited. The FAFSA application is available after October 1 of each year and will use the income tax information from two years prior. The student and at least one parent will need a FSA User ID and Password to complete the FAFSA online. You can create your FSA User ID and Password online at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm. We recommend you keep your FSA User ID and Password information in a safe place for future reference. All forms and supporting documentation (if requested) should be completed by May 1 to receive priority consideration for federal, state and institutional funds.
3. Apply for THE GTEG, Zell Miller and HOPE scholarshipS (GEORGIA RESIDENTS ONLY)
Georgia residents who do not file a FAFSA must complete GSFAPPS. The Zell Miller Scholarship pays $4,616 per academic year ($2,308 per semester), HOPE Scholarship pays $4,178 per academic year ($2,089 per semester), and GTEG pays $950 per academic year. Eligible students taking at least six credit hours qualify for a part-time Zell Miller Scholarship ($1,154 per semester) or HOPE Scholarship ($1,044.50 per semester). Log in to your account at gafutures.org to check your HOPE GPA.
4. apply for SCHOLARSHIPS
Apply for as many outside scholarships as possible. Visit the External Scholarships link on the Scholarships page for more information.
